I Voted Today

October 22nd, 2008

After work today, Paul and I headed over to the elections office to see how we could vote early.  I thought it would be a complicated deal, however, it was quite easy.  We gave our names and address, then the woman behind the counter pulled our files.  We had to fill out a form and she checked our signatures.  Next, we each went to a little table with dividers and voted.

My number was 2587.  There are about 30,000 people in the county and, once you minus all the people under 18 and those not registered to vote, it’s realistic to say that about 10% have taken advantage of voting early.  I was pretty impressed that all the workers were very polite despite being overwhelmed.

I also like the fact that, despite Nebraska being a VERY red state, you had many options to vote for.  You had a choice of John McCain, Barack Obama, Cynthia McKinney, Bob Barr, and Ralph Nader.  I was tempted to vote for McKinney, but, in the end, I filled in the oval for Obama.  Since Nebraska can split their electoral votes, you never know, Obama could pick up a vote here.

Overall, I was pretty happy that I didn’t have to wait in line and it’s all said and done.
