My thoughts on season 5 of Doctor Who

I’ll just run down what I thought of the season. I really don’t like Matt Smith at all as The Doctor.  There isn’t much else to say.  He’s flat and uninteresting.

Steven Moffat wrote on of my favorite episodes (The Girl in the Fireplace), so I had expected the writing and story telling to be a bit better than it has been. Unlike the author of this article, he hasn’t really impressed me. I felt like a lot of the explanations were tossed in at the last second. The last episode of the season felt a bit Deus ex machina to me. “Oh the sun is really the Tardis blowing up everywhere in every instance in time.” I was aggravated and disappointed in most of the stories this season.

Yes, Matt Smith is a decent actor, but he doesn’t feel like The Doctor to me. I expected to wait 2-3 episodes for this to happen, but I still don’t feel it even after the season has ended.

Karen Gillan works best when playing off Arthur Darvill. I much preferred Rory to Amy. I am, however, intrigued by River Song and am definitely interested in seeing what happens to her character and how her story plays out. I want to see more of her and less of Amy. I still miss Donna.

The new Tardis is cool. I wish we could see more of it. The theme song sucks. I cringe every time I hear it. The new Daleks suck. They are hideous. If I want to see the Power Rangers, I’d watch that instead of these new Daleks.

Even though I didn’t like the overall story arc of the season, I’m glad they are continuing to keep that going. I’ve never been a fan of constant “stand-alone” episodes.

The Time of Angels was the only episode I really liked. The angels are creepy as hell.

I’ll probably still watch in the hopes of it getting better, but I don’t have high expectations.
