The end of the first marking period, or quarter, has finally arrived at my new school. It’s hard to believe that the first nine weeks has already gone by. Most of the kids did pretty well, with only a few failures. As always, the kids who did not do anything, failed to participate, and did not hand in work, failed. I honestly don’t think my classes are that hard. If you come to class, put in the effort, and get all the work done you should at least get a C and most likely a B. There is simply no excuse for getting a D or an F.
I don’t know what these kids think, but some of them tell me of their plans for college and I cannot help but think they are clueless. If they cannot pass a 9th grade Social Science class or a 12th grade American Government class, then they will not survive in college. College requires effort and discipline and if you cannot get it done in high school you will not get it done in college.
I honestly think that a lot of these kids are in for a shock then they get out of school. They will be expected to stand on their own and will not have mommy or daddy there to bail them out. I guess these kids will have to learn the hard way. At least I can say I did my job to the best of my ability. I also feel that eleven failures out of 130+ students is not bad
