Today, when I got home from school, I was getting changed upstairs when there was a loud banging at the door. I looked out from the front bedroom window to see that it was one of theĀ  two grounds people who look after the grounds here at the townhouses. I went downstairs to find out what she wanted and she asked me what was going to happen to the swimming pool. I explained to her that I believed it was not my responsibility to repair the pool, that it was not in my contract to do such work and that I expected to be paid to do such work which I really did not want to do anyway.

When I told her this, she got somewhat belligerent and said that she wanted the keys to the pool and that I was done. I pointed out that I still had a contractual responsibility to close the pool and have it winterized to which she responded, “Don’t worry about it. We’ll take care of it.” I have to say I am not very happy because my contract does require me to close the pool up for the year and be paid for carrying out that obligation.

The one good thing about this is that I now have no more responsibility for the swimming pool. The pool has become a huge burden this year and I was spending too much time working on it when compared to what I was getting paid. If the people responsible had been maintaining the pool equipment over the years, as they were supposed to, then running the pool as the manager and operator would have been easy. In fact, the only thing I should need to do is top up the pool water each day and backwash the filter once week. Instead, I was spending a few hours each day trying to keep things working. At least now I am done with it and it will be interesting to see if the pool is open next year.
