This morning we drove to the Freshmen Academy and, when we arrived, we noticed a kitten sitting by the entry to the Academy obviously wanting to go inside. I thought it strange for a cat to want to get into the school and, as we got out of the car, he started to limp towards us, meowing and in a lot of pain. The kitten was also shivering and, when Irene picked him up, we saw that his paws were bloody.
We saw Fred, the day janitor, at the Freshman Academy and he recommended taking him to the Gering police station. We drove over the the police department only to find out that the door was locked and the police station closed! In the end, Irene drove him to her school and gave him milk. Betty, Irene’s boss, said she should take the kitten back to the police station as it is open 24 hours. What we did not know earlier was that if you need help from the Gering police after hours you need to pick up the phone by the front entrance and ask for assistance.
Irene took the kitten to the police station and they made a report and said they would take him to the Humane Society. I have already decided that we should adopt this kitty if no one claims him. He is a very cute little kitty and I think it would be fun to own a cat. Other than fish, I have never had a cat or dog and, since I don’t feel comfortable around dogs, it would have to be a cat.
My only worry now is that our landlord will not let us keep the kitten. In the lease we originally signed, it stipulated that we could not keep pets other than fish. However, since that lease was made, our townhouse has been sold to a new landlord. I am hopeful that when I call him on Monday, Sal, our landlord, will let us keep this kitten. I really hope so because I do not want the Humane Society to put him down if they cannot find anyone to adopt him.
